Norwegian B2 Level Courses for Upper Intermediate Learners

In this Norwegian course you will be following the book "Her på Berget". In the B2 full level course,  you will cover the whole book from chapters 1 to 12. Our Norwegian language courses include access to the digital version of the book and 24/7 access to Her på Berget e-learning platform.

Norwegian Course B2 – Upper-Intermediate Level (Norskkurs B2 Høyere Mellomnivå) Master a higher level of Norwegian with our B2 Upper-Intermediate Course – perfect for those aiming for fluency in professional or academic settings. At B2 level, you will learn to interact with native speakers with spontaneity and clarity, and tackle more abstract or technical topics. This course is ideal if you’ve completed B1 and want to sharpen your skills for university admission, a promotion at work, or simply to feel truly comfortable in Norwegian society. Throughout the B2 course, we dive into richer vocabulary (including idiomatic expressions and domain-specific terms), complex grammar (like passive forms, subjunctive mood/conditional forms, and nuanced conjunctions), and advanced listening/reading materials such as news reports, podcasts, and literature excerpts. You’ll practice articulating your thoughts on everything from Norwegian culture and current events to global issues. By the end of B2, you will be able to produce clear, detailed text and speech on a wide range of subjects and understand the main ideas of complex texts. You’ll essentially function almost like a “semi-native” – capable of following Norwegian conversations in group settings and expressing yourself without searching for words.

How long will it take me to be fluent in Norwegian?

Each student has a different pace and experience while learning a language. This will depend on your commitment, your language background, your exposure to Norwegian between lessons and the time you dedicate to consolidate and review the class content.

The universities in Norway have different requirements, some require B1 and other requirements B2. We advise the students to contact the universities directly and confirm which case applies.

You will learn how to:

    • Discuss and debate complex topics in Norwegian: engage in conversations on subjects like politics, environment, technology, or social issues. You’ll learn useful phrases for agreeing, disagreeing, and persuading – so you can hold your own in a discussion with Norwegian colleagues or friends.
    • Fine-tune your Norwegian grammar: handle advanced grammar points, such as passive voice (e.g. det blir gjort), conditional sentences (e.g. hadde jeg visst det, skulle jeg…), relative clauses, and nuanced use of tenses (distinguishing subtle differences between simple past and present perfect, for instance). Mastery of these will make your Norwegian sound more natural and precise.
    • Expand your vocabulary and idioms: every lesson introduces new expressions and synonyms to help you speak with variety. For example, learn idiomatic ways to express emotions or common Norwegian sayings used in everyday speech. We also cover professional vocabulary – writing a CV and cover letter in Norwegian, workplace jargon, or academic terms – depending on participants’ needs.
    • Improve comprehension of native-speed Norwegian: practice listening to fast conversations, radio programs, or TV clips. You’ll train to pick up key points even when some words are unfamiliar, using context to infer meaning – a critical B2 skill. We include listening exercises with different dialects as well, to broaden your understanding.
    • Write with clarity and detail: learn to compose well-structured essays, reports, or emails in Norwegian. At B2, you might write a persuasive text (e.g. arguing your opinion on a societal topic) or a narrative with descriptive detail. You’ll get personalized feedback to refine style and correctness, crucial if you plan to take Bergenstest/C1 exams or use Norwegian for professional documents.
